Church Links

St John’s is proud of the links it has with our local churches and community groups.

St John’s the Evangelist, Bierley

We work closely with the congregation at St John’s Church and their minister Father Paul Wheelhouse.   Fr Paul visits our school every week to lead a pupil prayer group for Key Stage One children and another for Key Stage Two children.  Fr Paul is often seen visiting classes around school, lending a hand to many lessons including badminton and computing!

Our Year 4 children lead the Education Sunday service annually at St John's Church along with the choir and year groups visiting other events such as the summer fayre and Christmas carol concerts.

St Christopher’s, Holmewood

We work closely with Canon Gary Hodgson at St Christopher’s Church in Holmewood.  Rev Gary also leads our half-termly staff prayers meeting.

Our Year 6 children lead the Harvest Festival service at St Christopher's Church every autumn along with other visits from across the school during the year for a variety of events with the congregation and parents.

The team of the Parish of Tong & Holmewood are extremely active in the community.

Bethel Community Church

Bethel Community Church’s mission statement is “loving God, loving people… seeing a community transformed one life at a time’.  The team at the Bethel Community Church are extremely active in the community.

St John’s Bowling Network

St John’s Bowling Network is a church of about 400 members who, in addition to coming together in various congregations in their church building, also run cell groups that are small communities that get together weekly.

Holmewood Salvation Army

Holmewood Salvation Army is a church and community centre based on St Margaret’s Avenue. As well as their weekly Sunday worship, they have a busy community programme which runs throughout the week. Their activities range from toddler groups, to after school clubs, youth clubs, and activities for adults and pensioners. A number of children and families from St John’s school attend their after school clubs and toddler groups.

Holme Christian Community

The pastor at Holme Christian Community Church is Mark Woodhouse. “We are an evangelical church with a real desire to transform our community with the Love of Jesus.  We are a people that see this by living out our faith in the community through both by preaching the uncompromising word of God and by deed in our every day lives. We meet to worship and encounter God on Thursdays at 10.45 am and Sunday mornings at 10.30 am.  Please feel free to come and join us at either of these services.  The church’s weekly news sheet provides all information for the coming week’s events at the church.

The Gateway Church

The Gateway Church is situated on Tong Street at the previous site of St John’s School.   Several of our children attend the weekly Friday evening children’s club (6.15pm- 7.30pm) which is great fun!
