Sports Day

On Tuesday we had a very enjoyable Sports Day with KS1 and Reception in the morning and KS2 in the afternoon.

Have a look at the photos below.

Year Ones getting their pen licence!

Two children in Year One have made history this week! Wiktor (from Willow) and Grace (from Elm) have both received their pen licence after working tirelessly to make sure their cursive writing was perfect. Mr Knight inspected lots of pieces of writing and he thought they both had worthy handwriting!

Grace said “This is the absolute best day of my life!”

Let’s see who is next!

Trying new meals in Year 1

Report written by Miss Corbett

We had a very exciting morning in Year One today. All of the grown-ups brought in a meal for us to try. We are reading a book called Grow your Own which is all about a boy called Sidney. He lives in a city and has never tried vegetables, but when he goes to stay with his grandma, he grows and tries lots of fruit and vegetables. We tried red, juicy strawberries, sweet honey-roasted carrots, smooth, rhubarb yoghurt, gloopy runner bean stew and cheesy pasta bake. We worked hard making a list of words to describe each food. Here are some of our favourites:

– – Kevin: The strawberries were so juicy. I got rosy cheeks like Sidney!

– – Carys: The rhubarb yoghurt because it was so sweet.

– – Daisy-Mae: The broccoli pasta bake was so cheesy and delicious.

– – Lucy: The runner bean stew was delicious because of the crunchy beans!

Not all of us liked everything, but we all gave it a try and often surprised ourselves!

KS1 Superhero Sports Day

Written by Poppy and Zac.
Friday 15 of April was our super hero sports day for our topic Fighting Fit. Everyone came in sports clothes or football kits and we paid £1 for charity. Some of the sports we did were football, running, netball, indoor-bowling and hockey! My favourite was Lindy Hop (Zac). My favourite was yoga (Poppy). After we had lunch we had a prize for the sportsman and sportswoman of the day. Jack and Amelia where the winners! We finished by turning ourselves into Superheroes using face paint and making capes. We all had a fantastic day!

KS1 visit Poppies from the Tower of London

Report written by Miss Baxendale.
Last week the children in Key Stage One went to see the Tower of London Poppies at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Both the children and adults were very moved by the art instillation. Whilst observing the display, the children thought about what each poppy represented and talked about any feelings they were experiencing.
During Willow’s visit, they met a lady who was 102 years old. She spoke about her experiences of the war and was very complimentary of the behaviour of our children whilst they listened carefully to her.
Year 2 spent time sketching the poppies and wrote words around their drawings to describe how they were feeling. The children were very respectful and clearly have a very good understanding of the importance of remembering and paying respect to those who fought for their country.
During the afternoon each class went on a long walk around the extensive grounds of the Sculpture Park, searching for wildlife and talking about how the woodland comes to life at night. This was a wonderful trip and the children certainly gained a lot from it!
