Some of our year 5 and 6 digital leaders have been very excited this week when we took delivery of the new 3D printer. The children worked together (reading the manual carefully!) to set up the printer and have been experimenting with the different settings and options ever since.
What has been especially impressive is their determination to solve problems when things did not work first time or something was unclear. Working as a team they were able to get the printer up and running pretty quickly. They are now starting to explore the software that comes with the printer and will be ready to design their own 3D products in no time!
Digital leaders are exploring the possible use of the 3D printer for year 5 and 6 lessons. This year 3D printing and 3D modelling was used in history (Egyptians).
As you are aware, Holmewood Library is sadly set to close due to funding being removed by Bradford Council. The closure of this library would be a huge loss to our local community as well as the children who use and enjoy the facilities available there. The library regularly holds activities and reading challenges, like the ‘Big Friendly Read’, to encourage children to read which are loved and appreciated by many pupils here at St John’s. Holmewood Library also offers a place for younger children to play and provides regularly company for members of our community.
You will have all received a letter with a slip to sign to show your support in keeping the library open. There is now also an online petition which has been created by Mrs Heward to further prevent the closure of Holmewood Library. It would be greatly appreciated if you could sign the online petition and continue return any slips from the letter to your class teacher.
