Year 3 trip to Pizza Express

To begin our term, Year three have been looking at whether pizza can be healthy or not. To help us to answer this question year three visited Pizza Express at Birstall and Clarence Dock. We had a fabulous time finding out about some pizza toppings and where they grow. We got to wear an apron and a hat and be real Pizziole. We enjoyed creating our pizza base and adding cheese and tomato.

Some of the children said that their favourite part was eating the pizza, others loved seeing the chef at the restaurant throw a pizza base into the air to make it bigger.

Save Holmewood Library!

As you are aware, Holmewood Library is sadly set to close due to funding being removed by Bradford Council. The closure of this library would be a huge loss to our local community as well as the children who use and enjoy the facilities available there. The library regularly holds activities and reading challenges, like the ‘Big Friendly Read’, to encourage children to read which are loved and appreciated by many pupils here at St John’s. Holmewood Library also offers a place for younger children to play and provides regularly company for members of our community.

You will have all received a letter with a slip to sign to show your support in keeping the library open. There is now also an online petition which has been created by Mrs Heward to further prevent the closure of Holmewood Library. It would be greatly appreciated if you could sign the online petition and continue return any slips from the letter to your class teacher.

The petition can be found via the following link:

Happy Birthday Queen Elizabeth II

Over the half-term holiday, children were invited to create their own Crazy Crown to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.  They were also invited to make a birthday card too!

The winning entries were judged by some of our School Councillors and received their certificates in assembly.  Have a look at their fantastic designs below!

Yesterday, the whole school had a penalty shoot out outside of the dining room. The penalty shootout was lead by Bradford City F.C and we managed to raise lots of money for charity and school.People who tried to raise money got to take four penalty’s against the chicken Billy Bantam from Bradford city and people who didn’t raise any money still got a chance to take a penalty at the end of the shootout. At the end of the shoot out of course no-one wanted to be left out so the teachers had a shot at Billy Bantam too! if you are wondering if you raise at least £3 you will get a medal and if you raise £20 or over you will get your a self a Bradford city football and maybe a medal! But the best… if you raise the most money out of the whole shootout you will get a unique Bradford City F.C football signed by Bradford city footballers!thnk you for putting in the effort to raise money and we are very grateful for your conturbiton to our fund today. The charity’s and our school are very delighted with all the money raised today and soon we may edit this post to tell you the grand total of money raised yesterday!
